It’s World Health Day and this year’s focus is “Our Planet, Our Health.”
The World Health Organization is focusing on actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being. While they are focusing on how climate change is impacting our planet and our health, we are focusing on how the lives and health of Ukrainians with disabilities are impacted by the Russian invasion.
- Many bomb shelters are inaccessible to people with physical disabilities
- People with intellectual disabilities may not understand what is happening around them and experiencing an increase in behaviours
- There is a shortage of food, medicines, and lack of access to medical and support services
- Accessibility equipment is being left behind in the rush to evacuate to find safety
