The Board at PHSS (Participating Housing Supports and Services) has been following the COVID-19 outbreak at Participation House in Markham. We would like to express our sympathies to the residents, staff and families as they manage the outbreak in their residential home under the difficult circumstances that have been covered in the media.
Although we share a similar name, we are not affiliated with the residential homes in Markham, Hamilton and Branford. We do not operate a 40-bed facility.
As many of you know, our organization provides medical and complex care in community, with our 60 residential homes. Each home typically supports 2-4 individuals. Every resident in our family style homes has their own bedroom. This allows us to limit contacts, while having the ability to seclude and protect them if needed.
None of our residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to the complex needs of our residents, and the medical support they require, we are working closely with local healthcare leaders, and taking direction from Ontario Public Health, Ontario Ministry of Health and local health units. We will continue to do so to keep our residents and staff healthy and safe.
As we enter Easter Weekend, I want to thank our staff, who are providing an essential service, for going above and beyond to support our residents. And to our families, we know this is a challenging time but we will get through this together.
Regards,
Brian Dunne
